ADA 2019: OMBRA BY PIERO LISSONI HONOURED

Selected from among 700 products nominated by 400 international brands, the new Ombra chair by Piero Lissoni was one of the winning designs at the prestigious Archiproducts Design Awards 2019, following up on Lema’s win last year for the Alamo table. Now in its fourth edition, the annual Archiproducts Design Awards celebrate design excellence and the best collaborations between companies and designers, such as the one between Lema and Piero Lissoni, who has been the brand’s art director since 1994. One of latest products of this solid partnership, Ombra embodies both Lema’s discreet style and the bold approach of Piero Lissoni. With its stunning designed architecture, Ombra’s metal structure is both sleek and solid, supporting the continuous shell that forms the seat part and backrest. Made from a slender sheet of printed rigid polypropylene, the shell can come with hide on the upper side or a full covering or leather, complete with ultra-thin padding. At the heart of Ombra is Lema’s tireless experimentation with forms and materials typical of industrial design. In this case, it has resulted in a chair that combines stylish sophistication with good value for money.
