01.Wood
Lema uses CARB2 certified low formaldehyde content panels and wood from FSC certified forests for our furniture.
02.PAINTS
Lema has optimized the painting processes by eliminating the solvent-based system and introducing the use of water-based paints for 50% of our production. This new system saves 30,000 kW/year of energy, avoiding the emission of around 7,650 kg/year of CO2.
We continue experimenting with paints: Lema is testing the use of bio paints, with the aim of switching exclusively in the near future.
03.MICROFLOCK
Lema produces the padding of new collections in Microflock, a polyester microfiber designed to imitate the characteristics of goose down. The minimal thickness of the fiber creates free air circulation ensuring maximum breathability. Equipped with good elastic recovery, it guarantees a long duration over time. Microflock is a sustainable product, the fibre comes from recycled bottles and PET, certified GRS (Global Recycle Standard).
04.feather
Lema uses goose and duck feathers and/or duvets subjected to regular hygienic-sanitary treatment. This complex production chain adheres is key for the respect of animals, it has a guarantee of traceability and transparency of the chain itself.
05.FABRICS
70% of the fabrics in our catalogue consists mainly of natural fibers such as jute, viscose, cotton, wool and linen, and 25% of fabrics are composed uniquely with raw materials of natural origin. Care for the environment also means making products that last over time: the catalog includes fabrics with a high wear and tear resistance index (>40,000 martindale).
06.POLYPROPYLENE
Our new seats in plastic material are made of PP – polypropylene, a completely recyclable material.
07.LEATHER
All leathers in the Basic, Top and Super collections are made with a low environmental impact process, therefore with a reduced use of polluting chemical substances. We consider it important to respect the sensitivity of each customer, which is why we have introduced a selection of synthetic leathers into our range.
08.STONEWARE
The stoneware used to make our table tops are of natural origin, such as clay and sand with decorations and textures created using water-based colours.
09.INTEGRATED LIGHTING
The lights integrated in Lema systems offer excellent performance whilst respecting the environment: it falls within the "C" and "D" new and more restrictive 2022 classification of the new European ErP-Ecodesign standard, made to encourage the use of light sources with high efficiency, that are more performing and with a lower consumption.
PRECIOUS WASTE
Production waste is collected and sent for recycling with the collaboration of a technical partner. In a year, we produce 7 tons of wood chips that are sent for recycling, partly as fuel for our biomass boiler, with an annual saving of 2.5 MWh and 373 tons of CO2, and partly as a raw material for the companies that produce new recycled chipboard panels. With the aim of giving life to new products: cardboard, steel, aluminum and all metal inserts are collected by Lema and sent to specialised companies to be reused. Waste glass is also produced and collected and sent to glassworks, where it is melted down to be reintroduced into the production cycle again.

2020
We obtain the UNI ISO 45001 international certification, which certifies Lema's responsibility for the protection of the health and safety of our employees. Our workers are a valuable resource and are part of a great team. Lema proactively and concretely improves the condition of its employees, preventing injuries and protecting their health.
2018
Lema introduces the biomass boiler, fed with waste shavings and sawdust, which covers 80% of the heating of the headquarters and reduces the consumption of the fuel used by 271 toe - tons of oil - equal to a saving of 2.5 MWh and 373 tons of CO2.
2015
The plant of our Giussano headquarters inaugurates the use of wood chips for heating, which uses scraps of branches, plants and woody parts cut into small uniform pieces called "chips" as fuel. This system allows a high energy resistance with low environmental impact, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of 150 tons per year.
2012
LEMA is certified with the BS OHSAS 18001 standard which recognizes our commitment to improving working conditions within our production plants. Lema then acquires the ISO 9001 certification, an international reference standard for quality management. ISO 9001 establishes adherence to all the programs that aim the continuous improvement of company performance, allowing us to ensure to our customers the maintenance and indeed improvement of the quality of our furniture over time.
2012
Lema installs photo voltaic panels at the Alzate Brianza headquarter capable of covering the energy needs of both the offices and the logistical area. The system produces 218,000 kWh per year with a CO2 saving of 60 tons/year.
2011
Lema has chosen to become FSC® certified to help safeguard forests and can supply FSC®-certified products on request. FCS® is an international, independent and non-profit NGO, which includes among its members both environmental and social groups, indigenous communities, forest owners, industries that work and trade wood, scientists and technicians who work together to improve the management of forests all over the world.
2008
Lema completes the restyling of Vodafone stores throughout Italy and the recovery and correct disposal of waste material from previous fittings. This complex turnkey project, was developed exclusively by Lema for 820 shops and 21 flagship stores.
PACKAGING WITH CARE
Lema aims to improve its environmental impact by carefully choosing the materials for packaging. The cardboard used is recycled and all waste is sent to specialised paper mills for recovery. Part of protective plastics used are made with regenerated and recyclable materials, with a commitment for the next few years to replace materials that are not eco-friendly. Lema also undertakes to raise awareness amongst final consumers, displaying clear instructions on how to dispose all packaging.
AT THE HEART OF LEMA
To encourage employees to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle, Lema offers promotions in collaboration with sports centres. An all-round idea of well-being: Lema also has agreements with theaters and museums to bring its employees closer to the world of art and beauty.
TARGETS
The path towards an increasingly sustainable future continues. Lema is planning various projects and investments with the aim of a better control and reduction of electricity consumption and CO2 emissions.
At the moment, investments in ethical and economic terms, have allowed us to use new materials that contribute to the creation of a more sustainable circular economy system. Indeed, Lema has introduced into its collections furnishings made with materials that are totally recyclable, such as the Ombra chair by Piero Lissoni in polypropylene, a recyclable thermoplastic material. The Wardrobe al Centimeter collection has taken a further step towards sustainability: the Tian wardrobe stands out for the CARB panel and for the aluminum and glass structure, materials which, if disposed of correctly, can be reused.
Today Lema is a perfect union of tradition and innovation. Projected towards the future, we welcome the current challenges to protect our planet, applying a profound know-how to new technologies, offering a product that combines aesthetics, functionality and of course sustainability.
